In The Book of Mormon one group of lighter-skinned people was commanded by God not to intermarry with a darker-skinned group. Becoming more like Christ sets us up for interactions with others that reflect love, healing and wholeness. I’d say that’s a step in the right direction when it comes to dating well.

This discrimination and the enslavement of Blacks only was made on the basis of what has become known as the “sin of Ham” or “the curse of Canaan.” Some said Blacks were inferior because they bore the “mark of Cain.” For example, through the late 1700s, the Rev. William Graham was rector and principal instructor at the Liberty Hall Academy, now Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. Every year, he lectured the senior graduating class on the value of slavery and used the Bible in his defense of it.

The black tribes sold the slaves to Portuguese slave traders who were Catholic and not Christian.
